actor. Born in Vienna, he went to the USA
1935. He directed Margin for Error 1942,
Laura 1944, The Moon is Blue 1953, The Man
With the Golden Arm 1955, Anatomy of a Murder
1959, Skidoo! 1968, and Rosebud 1974. His
films are characterized by an intricate
technique of story-telling, and a masterly
use of the wide screen and the travelling
camera.
