Port serving the capital Mahon on the Spanish
island of Minorca (second in size of the
Balearic Islands, after Majorca). The largest
natural port in the Mediterranean, Mahon was
occupied and colonized by the great seafaring
powers of antiquity (the Phoenicians and the
Romans), and later by the Dutch, the French
and the English during the 17th to 19th
centuries.
