1831-1903. French Impressionist painter, born in the West Indies. He went to Paris in 1855, met Corot, then Monet, and became a leading member of the Impressionists. He experimented with various styles, including Pointillism, in the 1880s. His son Lucien Pissarro (1863-1944) worked in the same style for a time. He lived in the UK from 1890.
