1935- . English jockey. He was regarded as a brilliant tactician and adopted a unique high riding style. A champion jockey 11 times between 1960 and 1982, he rode a record nine Derby winners. He was associated with such great horses as Nijinsky, Sir Ivor, Roberto, Empery, and The Minstrel. Piggott won all the major races including the English classics. He retired from riding 1985 and took up training. In 1987 he was imprisoned for tax evasion. He returned to racing in 1990.
