1914- . British biochemist, who shared the
1962 Nobel Prize for Chemistry with John
Kendrew for work on the structure of the
haemoglobin molecule. Born in Austria, Perutz
moved to Britain in 1936 to work with John
Bernal (1901-1971) at Cambridge University.
After internment in Canada as an alien during
World War II he returned to Cambridge and
completed his research in 1959.
