1822-1912. French economist, who shared the
first Nobel Peace Prize 1901 with Jean-Henri
Dunant. He founded the International League
for Permanent Peace 1867, and was cofounder,
with the English politician William Cremer
(1828-1908), of the Inter-Parliamentary
Conferences on Peace and on Arbitration 1889.
