1931- . British Conservative politician. He
was chair of the party 1981-83, and became
minister for trade and industry, but resigned
Oct 1984 following disclosure of an affair
with his secretary. In 1987 he rejoined the
cabinet as secretary of state for energy, and
in 1989 became the transport secretary.
