1511-1546. Spanish explorer who travelled
with Francesco Pizarro from Guayaquil, on the
Pacific coast of South America, to Quito in
the Andes. He was the first person known to
have navigated the full length of the Amazon
from the Napo River to the Atlantic Ocean
1541-43.
