1808-1877. British writer, granddaughter of R
B Sheridan. Her works include Undying One
1830 and Voice from the Factories 1836,
attacking child labour. In 1836 her husband
falsely accused Lord Melbourne of seducing
her, obtained custody of their children, and
tried to obtain the profits from her books.
Public reaction to this prompted changes in
the laws of infant custody and married
women's property rights.
