1924-1990. Italian composer. His early vocal
compositions have something of the spatial
character of Gabrieli, for example Il Canto
Sospeso 1955-56. After the opera Intolleranza
1960 his style moved away from serialism to
become increasingly expressionistic. His
music is frequently polemical in subject
matter, and a number of works incorporate
tape-recorded elements.
