theorist. His paintings are solid-coloured
canvases with a few sparse vertical stripes.
They represent a mystical pursuit of simple
or elemental art. His sculptures, such as
Broken Obelisk 1963-67, consist of geometric
shapes on top of each other. Born in New York
City, he was involved in the development of
colorfield painting.
