A series of seven books for children by C S
Lewis. The first in the series, The Lion, the
Witch and the Wardrobe, was published in
1950; in it children travel through a
wardrobe into an imaginary country, Narnia.
There the Christian story is re-enacted in a
mythical context, the lion Aslan representing
Christ. Further journeys into Narnia feature
in the sequels Prince Caspian 1951, The
Voyage of the Dawn Treader 1952, The Silver
Chair 1953, The Horse and his Boy 1954, The
Magician's Nephew 1955, and The Last Battle
1956.
