1941- . British footballer. Captain of West Ham United and England, he led them to victory over West Germany in the 1966 World Cup final at Wembley Stadium. Between 1962 and 1970 he played a then record 108 games for England. He played the last of his 668 Football League games for Fulham against Blackburn Rovers in 1977, after a career spanning 19 years. He later played in Hong Kong before becoming a director of Southend United and in 1984 he became their manager. He later became sports editor of the Sunday Sport newspaper.
