1896-1981. Italian poet and writer. His pessimistic poetry, for which he was awarded a Nobel prize in 1975, includes Ossi di seppia/Cuttlefish bones 1925 and Le Occasioni/Occasions 1939. In 1989 it was revealed that much of his literary journalism, such as his regular column in the Corriere della Sera newspaper, was in fact written by an American, Henry Frost.
