1904-1944. US trombonist and, as bandleader,
exponent of the big-band swing sound from
1938. He composed his signature tune
`Moonlight Serenade' (a hit 1939). Miller
became leader of the US Army Air Force Band
in Europe 1942, made broadcasts to troops
throughout the world during the war, and
disappeared without trace on a flight between
England and France during World War II.
