c. 1570-1627. English dramatist. He produced numerous romantic plays, tragedies, and realistic comedies, both alone and in collaboration, including A Fair Quarrel and The Changeling 1622 with Rowley; The Roaring Girl with Dekker; and Women Beware Women 1621. His political satire A Game at Chess 1624 was concerned with the plots to unite the royal houses of England and Spain, and caused a furore with the authorities.
