1909-1984. English actor who portrayed
romantic villains in British films of the
1940s. After Odd Man Out 1947 he worked in
the USA, notably in A Star is Born 1954.
Other films include The Wicked Lady 1946,
Lolita 1962, and Cross of Iron 1977.
