1898-1987. Armenian film director who lived
in the USA from 1923. After several years on
Broadway he turned to films, making the first
sound version of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde 1932
and Queen Christina 1933. His later work
includes The Mark of Zorro 1940 and Silk
Stockings 1957.
