1722-1790. Scottish heroine who rescued
Prince Charles Edward Stuart, the Young
Pretender, after his defeat at Culloden in
1746. Disguising him as her maid, she
escorted him from her home in the Hebrides to
France. She was arrested, but released in
1747.
