1893-1977. US actor. He went straight from
school into the theatre, and in 1922 married
Lynn Fontanne with whom he subsequently
co-starred in more than 30 successful plays.
They formed a sophisticated comedy duo, and
the New York Lunt-Fontanne theatre was named
after them. Their shows included Design for
Living by Noel Coward 1933, There Shall Be No
Night 1940-41, and The Visit 1960.
