1961- . US racing cyclist, the first American
to win the Tour de France 1986. Although his
career received a setback in 1987 through
injury, he recovered sufficiently to regain
his Tour de France title in 1989 by seven
seconds, the smallest margin ever. He won it
again in 1990. He also won the World
Professional Road Race in 1983 and 1989.
