1946, The Bridge on the River Kwai 1957,
Lawrence of Arabia 1962 (Academy Award) - a
re-vamped version released 1990, and A
Passage to India 1985. Beginning as a camera
assistant in 1928, he was assistant director
of Pygmalion 1938. His other films include
Blithe Spirit 1945 and Ryan's Daughter 1970.
He was knighted 1984.
