1949- . Austrian motor racing driver, who won the world championship in 1977, 1977 and 1984. He was also runner-up in 1976 just six weeks after a horrific accident at Nurburgring, West Germany which left him badly burned and permanently scarred. He was Formula Two champion in 1972, and drove for March, BRM, Ferrari, and Brabham before his retirement in 1978. He returned to the sport in 1984 and won his third world title in a McLaren before eventually quitting in 1985 to concentrate on his airline business, Lauda-Air.
