1619-1683. English general, a cavalry
commander in the Civil War under Cromwell (at
the battles of Marston Moor, Preston, Dunbar,
and Worcester). Lambert broke with him over
the proposal to award Cromwell the royal
title. After the Restoration he was
imprisoned for life.
