1902-1982. Cuban abstract painter. Influenced
by Surrealism in the 1930s (he lived in Paris
1937-41), he created a semi-abstract style
using mysterious and sometimes menacing
images and symbols, mainly taken from
Caribbean tradition. His Jungle series, for
example, contains voodoo elements.
