1981-85 and 1988. He was nine times British
open champion 1982-90, and world amateur
champion 1979, 1983, and 1985. After losing
to Geoff Hunt (Australia) in the final of the
1981 British open he did not lose again until
Nov 1986 when he lost to Ross Norman (New
