1809-1893. English actress, daughter of
Charles Kemble. She first appeared as
Shakespeare's Juliet in 1829. In 1834, on a
US tour, she married a Southern plantation
owner and remained in the USA until 1847. Her
Journal of a Residence on a Georgian
Plantation 1835 is a valuable document in the
history of slavery.
