1854-1880. Australian bushranger. The son of
an Irish convict, he wounded a police officer
in 1878 while resisting the arrest of his
brother Daniel for horse-stealing. The two
brothers escaped and carried out bank
robberies. Kelly wore a distinctive home-made
armour. In 1880 he was captured and hanged.
