A member of a North American Indian people
who live on both sides of the N entrance to
the Queen Charlotte Strait in British
Columbia. Their language belongs to the
Wakashan family. They are one of the NW coast
tribes famed for their potlatches, status
festivals involving a lavish consumption,
even destruction, of goods.
