long-distance runner at 5,000 metres, 10,000
metres, marathon, and cross-country running.
She has won all the world's leading
marathons. In 1986 she knocked 45.68 seconds
off the world 10,000 metres record. She was
the world cross-country champion in 1988 and
won the London marathon in 1984-1985,
1987-1988.
