1918- . US biochemist. In 1956, while working on enzymes at Washington University, Kornberg discovered the enzyme DNA-polymerase, which enabled molecules of DNA to be synthesized for the first time. For this work Kornberg shared the 1959 Nobel Prize for Medicine with Severo Ochoa.
