1882-1960. Austrian child psychoanalyst. She pioneered child psychoanalysis and play studies, and was influenced by Sigmund Freud's theories. She published The Psychoanalysis of Children in 1960. Klein analysed the behaviour of children through the use of play techniques; this practice was later adopted in child guidance clinics. Her research into the origins of mental disorder psychosis, schizophrenia, and depression extended the range of patients who can usefully undergo psycholanalysis.
