1208-1276. King of Aragon from 1213, when he
succeeded his father. He conquered the
Balearic Islands and took Valencia from the
Moors, dividing it with Alfonso X of Castile
by a treaty of 1244. Both these exploits are
recorded in his autobiography Llibre deis
feyts. He largely established Aragon as the
dominant power in the Mediterranean.
