English furniture maker. He developed a
simple, elegant style, working mainly in
mahogany or satinwood, adding delicately
inlaid or painted decorations of feathers,
shells, or wheat-ears. His book of designs,
The Cabinetmaker and Upholsterer's Guide
1788, was published posthumously.
