1909-1986. Australian dancer, choreographer,
and actor. The leading male dancer with the
Sadler's Wells Ballet, London 1933-50, he
partnered Margot Fonteyn in the 1940s. His
gift for mime and his dramatic sense is also
apparent in his choreographic work, for
example Miracle in the Gorbals 1944. He was
knighted 1968.
