1949- . Afghani Islamic fundamentalist
guerrilla leader. He became a mujaheddin
guerrilla in the 1980s, leading the
fundamentalist faction of the Hizb-i Islami
(Islamic Party), dedicated to the overthrow
of the Soviet-backed communist regime in
Kabul. He has refused to countenance
participation in any interim `national unity'
government which includes Afghani communists.
