1872-1959. English cabinet-maker who took 
over the Heal's shop from his father and 
developed it into the renowned London store. 
He initially designed furniture in the Arts 
and Crafts style, often in oak, but in the 
1930s he started using materials such as 
tubular steel. Heal was a founder member of 
the Design and Industries Association, which
aimed to improve the quality of mass-produced
items.
