1765-1815. English courtesan. In 1782 she
became the mistress of Charles Greville and
in 1786 of his uncle Sir William Hamilton,
the British envoy to the court of Naples, who
married her 1791. After Admiral Nelson's
return from the Nile 1798 during the
Napoleonic Wars, she became his mistress and
their daughter, Horatia, was born 1801.
