1847-1912. British actor and singer. Turning
from journalism to the stage, in 1877 he
began a long association with the Gilbert and
Sullivan operas, in which he created a number
of parts. He collaborated with his brother
Weedon Grossmith (1853-1919) on the comic
novel Diary of a Nobody 1894.
