1883-1969. German architect, who lived in the
USA from 1937. A founder-director of the
Bauhaus school in Weimar 1919-28, he was an
advocate of team architecture and artistic
standards in industrial production. His works
include the Fagus-Werke (a shoe factory in
Prussia), the Model Factory at the 1914
Werkbund exhibition in Cologne, and the
Harvard Graduate Center 1949-50. He was
professor of architecture at Harvard.
