1898-1972. Scottish film producer. He was a
sociologist who pioneered the documentary
film in Britain, viewing it as `the creative
treatment of actuality'. He directed Drifters
1929 and produced 1930-35 Industrial Britain,
Song of Ceylon, and Night Mail. During World
War II he created the National Film Board of
Canada.
