1632-1705. Italian Baroque painter, born in
Naples, active in Florence in the 1680s. In
1692 he was summoned to Spain by Charles II
and painted ceilings in the Escorial palace
for the next ten years. In Florence Giordano
painted a ceiling in the Palazzo
Riccardi-Medici 1682-83. He also produced
altarpieces and frescoes for churches. His
work shows a variety of influences, including
Paolo Veronese, and tends to be livelier than
that of earlier Baroque ceiling painters.
