1867-1944. US illustrator. He portrayed an
idealized type of American young woman, known
as the `Gibson Girl'. Gibson was born in
Roxbury, Massachusetts. He worked for Life
magazine, eventually becoming its editor. He
also illustrated books and later painted in
oils.
