Honourable Corps of In the British army, 
theoretically the main bodyguard of the 
sovereign; its functions are now ceremonial. 
Established 1509, the corps is, next to the 
Yeomen of the Guard, the oldest in the army; 
it was reconstituted 1862. It consists of 
army officers of distinction under a 
captain, a peer, whose appointment is 
political.
