1926-1984. French philosopher who rejected
phenomenology and existentialism. He was
concerned with how forms of knowledge and
forms of human subjectivity are constructed
by specific institutions and practices.
Foucault was deeply influenced by Nietzsche,
and developed an analysis of the operation of
power in society using Nietzschean concepts.
