The younger brother of King Saud, on whose
accession 1953 he was declared crown prince.
He was prime minister from 1953 to 1960 and
from 1962 until his assassination by a
nephew. In 1964 he emerged victorious from a
lengthy conflict with his brother and adopted
a policy of steady modernization of his
country. He was assassinated by a nephew.
