His workshops in St Petersburg and Moscow
were celebrated for the exquisite delicacy of
their products, especially the use of gold in
various shades. Among his masterpieces was a
series of jewelled Easter eggs, the first of
which was commissioned by Alexander III for
the tsarina 1884. Faberge died in exile in
Switzerland.
