1954- . US tennis player. She won her first
Wimbledon title 1974, and has since won 21
Grand Slam titles. She became the first woman
tennis player to win $1 million in prize
money. She has an outstanding two-handed
backhand and is a great exponent of baseline
technique. From 1974-89 at Wimbledon she has
never failed to reach the quarter-finals at
least. She married British Davis Cup player
John Lloyd 1979 but subsequently divorced.
