1815-1842. British heroine. She was the 
daughter of a lighthouse keeper on the Farne 
Islands, off Northumberland. On 7 Sept 1838 
the Forfarshire was wrecked, and Grace 
Darling and her father rowed through a storm 
to the wreck, saving nine lives. She was 
awarded a medal for her bravery.
