1913- . French author. Originally a 
journalist, he was liaison agent with the 
British Army at Dunkirk in 1940, and created 
in Les Carnets du Major Thompson/The 
Notebooks of Major Thompson 1954, a humorous 
Englishman who caught the French imagination.
